Barry Levinson, the acclaimed director, producer and screenwriter of films such as Rain Man and Diner, was the honoree at Westport Public Library’s fourteenth annual Booked for the Evening fundraising event. The guest of honor was lauded for his contributions to contemporary American culture and film. The event, which was held at the library’s Great Hall, was a star-studded affair. Speakers included Michael Tucker, who acted in Levinson’s Diner and Tin Men, and costarred with his wife and fellow speaker, Jill Eikenberry, in television’s L.A. Law. A number of “virtual guests” were also in attendance via congratulatory videos, including Danny DeVito and Robert De Niro. The proceeds raised by the event will support the library’s programs, which benefit the community.
