For Mikey

None other than the legendary Joan Rivers headlined a fundraiser comedy night for Mikey’s Way Foundation. Calling it a great success, Barbara Landau, Mikey’s Way event coordinator and Mikey’s mom, said, “We raised over $115,000 to help carry out the mission of the foundation.” Focusing on children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, the foundation connects them with their family, friends and schools via electronic devices, like laptops. Diversion (fun) is also part of the goal.

The organization is named for Mikey Friedman, who underwent prolonged cancer treatment as a teen. His dream (and selfless wish through the Make a Wish Foundation) was to help other children facing a critical illness to be able to not only connect with their friends and family during treatment but also to take their minds off it whenever possible. How appropriate, then, to host a night of comedy for the organization’s generous supporters.
