The Westport Arts Center

The Westport Arts Center is a visual and performing arts organization dedicated to creating art experiences that enrich the lives of area residents and the community. Reaching more than 11,000 people annually through outstanding arts and education programs, including contemporary art exhibits, arts education, and the performance arts (chamber, film and jazz music) the WAC inspires and educates people of all ages. Enjoy their workshops, family programs and Galleries.

Art enthusiasts and novices alike will enjoy strolling through the 2,000 square foot gallery, which overlooks the lovely Saugatuck River and hosts exhibitions, concerts, lectures and film screenings.

Specialized guided one hour group tours are hosted, as you enjoy discussion based gallery talks designed to explore particular themes and art historical context related to the exhibitions.
The Gallery is free and open to the public 7 days a week.

Materials-based workshops are held for children ages 2-12, after school, Saturdays and on vacation days. Week long summer camps are held June - August. Enjoy themed camps and even a brand-new beach bum camp which takes its inspiration from the best part about summer - the beach!

Earthplace

This nature discovery center – is on a mission to build compassion in our community for nature and the environment through education, experience and action.

With 62 acres of open space, 30 live animals, and an interactive natural history museum, Earthplace offers an unparalleled opportunity for students in grades K-5 to learn, play and explore. Enrichment activities include science classes, animal programs, nature walks, visits to the Ct Birds of Prey exhibit, and free play on the newly renovated playground.  From pre-school adventure to a teen volunteer club, opportunities for daily summer fun abound.

Weekly family drop in activities are offered – enjoy story and animal time, animal feedings and birds of prey feedings.

Summer camp offers nature and science based programs for children in preschool through 9th grade.

Longshore

Residents cannot go wrong with a day spent at this town gem! Definitely ‘something for everyone’ in your family!

The Longshore Pool Complex and Pavilion: boasts 2 seaside swimming pools and a wading pool, locker rooms, showers, a full service concession stand and outdoor seating.  After a family swim, enjoy the adjacent playground and a tennis match on one of the 9 lighted Har-Tru tennis courts.  Junior play is welcome from ages 8 years and older. Paddle/platform tennis courts are also lighted, heated and available for junior’s age 10 years and older.

Longshore Golf Course: This beautiful seaside course offers a short 18 hole course with beautiful well-manicured fairways, and a bit of a challenge on the small well-bunkered greens.  Junior golf begins at age 8 years and over.

Longshore Sailing School is proud to announce the opening of registration for the 2014 summer programs.  Highly qualified and U.S. Sailing Certified instructors provide a safe and fun learning experience on the water. Enjoy programs and lessons (age 8 years and up) and family boat rentals for up to 5 passengers; kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards to lasers and hobies – affordable and hassle free.   Walk-ins are welcome or reserve your boat ahead of time; set up, launch and life preservers are provided by their courteous staff.

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk

Rainy day or get out of the hot sun family fun!   

Open since July 1988, this Aquarium offers visitors of all ages an opportunity to have a good time while learning about the vital natural resource we are lucky to have close to home; the
Long Island Sound. Observe 34 exhibits featuring more than 1200 marine animals of 259 species including sharks, seals, river otters and sea turtles!  

Special exhibits: enjoy the hilarious Meerkats in their habitat, the new ‘juggle a jelly’ fish exhibit, the IMAX Theater shows, the Lorikeets (beautiful tropical birds), and… the highly anticipated new arrival of the ‘R/V Spirit of the Sound’ research vessel!  Be the first to ride on this 65 foot all aluminum, electric powered, catamaran!  Enjoy marine life study cruises and seal watches from aboard this vessel.  Summer camps are also offered for children age 6 years and up, as are birthday parties and the ever popular ‘sleep with the fishes’ sleepovers!

The Westport Country Playhouse

The Westport Weston Family Y’

The Y’ offers a multitude of family oriented events and programs;  learning programs, aquatics, dance center, gymnastics, fitness center, sports and rec, racquet sports and the ever popular summer Camp Mahackeno.

Bring the whole family and enjoy ‘Family Day’ each Sunday afternoon with a special Family Swim 1-3pm, Family Basketball 2-4pm and Family Fitness 2-3pm program. Suggestion: a family stroll along the beach collecting seashell memories!
